Axie Infinity
Pokémon-inspired play-to-earn blockchain game Axie Infinity was developed in 2018 but gained widespread popularity in 2021.
The game allows players to collect characters called Axies, which the players can raise, use for battle, and trade on the metaverse.
Players of the game either buy the Axies in NFT sales or breed theirs through a combination of AXS (Axies, required to play the game) and SLP (Smooth Love Portion) tokens. Players get rewarded with the SLP token, which is tradeable for other Ethereum based tokens on decentralized exchanges.
Axie traded the most volume in US dollars in 2021, and the most expensive Axie sold for $820,000.
As the game attracts more players and better participation, the projected $1 billion in trade volume in 2022 makes it a collection to watch closely. Definitely one of the best potential NFTs of 2022.
